Board of Directors Meeting

June 12, 2000

 

The monthly meeting of the Avocet Board of Directors was called to order at 7:00PM on Monday, June 12th, 2000, at the Avocet Clubhouse with Andrew Goodspeed presiding, Lara Foreman and Frank Boduch present.  Sue Juliano from Today American all participated.

 

Minutes of the 5/1/2000 Board meeting were read and accepted on the motion of Lara.  Seconded by Andrew.

Comments from the Floor

  • No one present.

Committee Reports

Sports Committee

  • Bids are being collected for tennis court repairs & maintenance.  e.g., fences, windscreens, surfaces and lighting.  Darrin to call Sue Juliano to coordinate bid activity.  Andrew to follow-up.

Pool Committee

  • One of the pumps failed and had to be replaced at a cost of approximately $1,000.
  • Discussed the quality of service provided by Sears Pool Company and need to monitor more closely.
  • Need to clarify duties of lifeguard, including maintenance items.
  • Gate locks are not working properly.  Sue Juliano to follow-up.
  • Discussed possibility for purchasing more tables and umbrellas for pool area.

Finance Committee

  • Bob Elliott has begun working on long-term capital forecast, and how to effectively invest capital reserve money.  Andrew to follow-up.

Information Committee

  • Written version of the community newsletter has now been delivered. 
  • Need to prompt committees to submit more information for communicating to community.

Architecture Committee

  • One fence approval currently under review.
  • BOD and Today American need copies of all approvals for official records and in case follow-up is needed.

Kids Club Committee

  • Nothing new until Halloween.

Security Committee

  • The COPS graduation was held on 5/18/00.  Avocet received its COPS diploma.

Landscape Committee

  • Nothing new to report.

Social Committee

  • The Summer Splash party was a great success.  Thanks to the Social Committee for their hard work.
  • BOD suggested that thought be given to a small Labor Day/Summer mixer.  Frank to follow-up.

Covenants Committee

  • Draft of new documents with proposed changes received.  BOD has reviewed and forwarded to attorney for review and concerns, if any.

Unfinished Business

  • Still waiting for a response from McRae & Stoltz regarding their lot and lack of maintenance.
  • Greg Suggs has agreed to assist in monitoring and self-policing of properties within our community.

New Business

  • Approved an expenditure of $900 to cover the cost of required 1999 financial audit.
  • Open discussion on a request from a member of the community to open the clubhouse when a lifeguard is on duty.  Declined to approve based on concerns over increased liability, insurance, maintenance and wear & tear. 
  • Discussed preparations for the 2001 budget.  Requires input from Bob Elliott. 
  • Addressed complaint from a member of the community pertaining to a dog on a chain long enough to reach the curb.  Sue Juliano will write a letter to the homeowner.  
  • Sue Juliano discussed the problem with drainage behind the clubhouse and alternatives to cure existing problems.  Alternatives will need further discussion in future meetings.  

 

The next meeting of the Avocet BOD was scheduled for Monday, July 10th, 2000, starting at 7:00PM at the Avocet Clubhouse.

The motion to adjourn this meeting was made by Andrew and seconded by Lara.  Meeting ended at 9:45PM.
